Gender Neutral Nurseries - Zeitgeist

Gender Fluidity isn't Just for Public Restrooms Anymore - NOTE: This is not a political post!!

Growing up, the tradition of blues for boys and pinks for girls for nursery design were everywhere. Today, we are saving that for the gender reveal and pink in every room we can get approval for. In 2021, we love that nursery designs are fostering creativity and imagination in all the details. Below are some of our favorite current gender-neutral nursery trends.

Also, I have an amazing twin sister, Rebecca. She is the white sheep to my black. I am Math and Science, She is English and Literature. She was a missionary in China, and I wandered into Mexico with no plans of ever leaving. I need to remember to ask my mom what they did for our nursery. Probably nothing. They were broke, my dad in his final years of medical school, a five year old, and two huge babies. I was 7lbs something and my sister was like 8.5lbs, and we were born 20 minutes apart. I just imagine in the late 70s you would paint a room baby yellow if gender unknown or mixed. But I digress.

Born To Be Wild - Así Como Yo

Instead of bringing the baby to the zoo, bring the zoo to the baby. Look at this safari inspired look. Never underestimate the power of a few standout accent pieces (or animals), quality furniture, and a good color palette. Together, these elements create an adorable and imaginative space perfect for any baby, and a space they can grow into early or late childhood in with minimal changes.

These earthy tones, textures, and materials enrapture a simplistic yet dreamy room. Perfect for bohemian babies everywhere.

On that note, be careful what you name your children. I love my name more than almost anything. It has treated me well, and I thank my parents for it often. But you can’t name your son Forrest and think they aren’t going to be a little weird and wild, obsessed with nature y mas. My poor, sweet, beautiful mother had her hands full with me, and Rebecca and Bradley too. Gracias por tu paciencia mamá.

Start off with a color palette or a piece of stand out furniture and then find accessories to model around. Or do it the opposite way. Find a rug or art pieces like the above and use that as your design springboard. This is a great theme for those inspired by a more bohemian or minimalist design.

Lions and Textures and Bears - Oh My!

This look brings together all of our favorite elements, a beautiful wallpaper, neutral colors, and a gorgeous window treatment. Y ositos. Soy un ositos y me encantan los ositos. The light fixture really ties the room together to create a cozy and cute space for the baby. While this room isn't the most colorful, it goes to show how intentional dashes of color can make just as bold of a statement.
