Behind the Scenes: Our First Walk-Through at Casa Andante

Every design story has a first chapter, and for us it’s always the walk-through. This week, we stepped inside Casa Andante in Punta Mita for the very first time—tape measures in hand, cameras at the ready, and fresh eyes looking for both the potential and the pitfalls.

Our clients weren’t with us this time, and that’s often how it begins. While they continue with daily life, we’re busy behind the scenes laying the foundation for a transformation that will reflect their vision, lifestyle, and personality.

What Happens During a Walk-Through

Think of the walk-through as a combination of detective work and future-casting. We look at:

  • Flow and function – How spaces connect and how life will actually move through the home.

  • Scale and proportion – Where a bed, sofa, or dining table will feel right, and where it won’t.

  • Opportunities and challenges – From a room that could be opened up to a corner that begs for custom built-ins.

  • Lifestyle details – Sand tracked in from the beach, surfboards by the door, kids running upstairs—these things all influence the choices we’ll make.

It’s a process of observing, imagining, and documenting, so that when the design work begins, we’re building on solid ground.

Why This Stage Matters

By walking through without the client present, we’re able to notice the things they might not, and anticipate questions they haven’t thought to ask yet. It’s our job to see both the beauty and the problem areas—to catch what’s missing, what’s possible, and what needs to be addressed before the creative work begins.

The result? A design process that feels effortless for the homeowner, because all of the heavy lifting and problem-solving has already been set in motion.

The Casa Andante Vision

For this project, our client Alexis wants a home that’s vibrant, comfortable, and welcoming—a place that celebrates her family’s active lifestyle. On this first visit, we imagined how color, texture, and durable finishes will meet the realities of wet swimsuits, sandy feet, and sunset entertaining.

That vision starts here, with us pacing through empty rooms and open decks, already seeing the home that doesn’t exist yet.
