Rethinking Mid-Century + The Retro Remix Interior Design Trend and Tendencia 2024 - Part 1 - ALCAVO designed by Loak: Holistic Design House

Part 1 - ALCAVO designed by Loak: Holistic Design House

This is a follow up article from the Mid Century blog that Indira wrote a while back so I can give you my personal take on this trend. Not that my personal take is how someone else may want to recreate this interior design trend or tendencia, but I do have some serious opinions on this trend in particular.

Spoiler alert: I have always hated Mid Century Modern…until recently. I’m sorry I know this offends many people so I rarely mention this fact. As a designer, my only focus is to design a space that my clients will love and ultimately help them live a better life. AND functionality (dysfunctionality)  is the only thing I can feel about a space immediately and deal with appropriately.

Read all about it!!!! New 2025 Interior Design and Home Decor Trends article just released.

This is also not really a trend about 1950s design. It's more of a trend about the mix, la combi’ (a la Rosalia) o la mezcla de un espacio. I just happen to really like some of the shapes and honestly the audacity of some pieces of furniture from the 50s especially when mixed with pieces from the 1960s-80s.The plywood and laminate BS can still go to wherever in my opinion. I’ll never be a fan of simply copying some style like Atomic Ranch to the T. We are trying to design here, not curate a momenta moire to a style that is hopefully dead and gone.

A ver, one of our favorite design concepts that combines this interior design trend with a luxury Latin American vibe is actually a stunning 3D rendering by Egypt based LOAK Holistic Design House. https://www.instagram.com/loakdesigns I have no idea if this project has been built, but if it hasn’t someone should bring it into fruition.

We will definitely be using design elements of this project for our future interior designs in Puerto Vallarta, Bucerías, and Punta Mita. This is the type of luxury interiors that we firmly believe are needed in these popular beach areas of Mexico as well as Cabo and the Tulum area.

We also really appreciate the stunning renderings they have done of the window treatments in this high end home design. But of course we are very biased about draperies and Roman shades in Mexico since producing drapes and Romans in Guadalajara is our main business.

As interior designers, we also immediately notice the other design details that are becoming trends and tendencias such as Arched Windows, Curved Furniture (which look remarkably like some of our recent custom furniture designs that we also have manufactured in Jalisco), and the Bed Coverlet. Another amazing feature that has really peaked our curiosity is the Abstract Wall Design above the primary bed with the forest green bed coverlet and honestly, who doesn’t love a glass indoor, outdoor cactus garden.

We will definitely be adding these two design elements to our future list of luxury trends and tendencias for interior designers and homeowners alike. High end Mexican home design fetures will be coming to homes near you.

This home decor trend and tendencia blog post will be at least three parts as there are two other amazing projects that we are dying to feature pero ten mucho cuidado porque el futuro is birght AF and full of color.

If the spirit moves you, please contact us for custom draperies and window treatments. Forrest is also available for a very limited 30 minute interior or creative business consultations each week.
