When Forrest Glover Design, known as a high-end residential window treatment specialist, was invited to join forces with Geremia Design for a project, the captivating allure of the historic Berkeley house was impossible to ignore. Constructed by the groundbreaking female architect Julia Morgan in 1920, this dwelling exudes an unparalleled charm, holding a prestigious place amidst Morgan's portfolio of over 700 structures. Having withstood the 1906 earthquake, it stands as a testament to robust construction and continues to be an architectural marvel, nestled on Berkeley's twisting lanes.
As the tale unfolds, the Glide family gifted this stunning Georgian-style house to their daughter upon her marriage. This elegant edifice, accompanied by flourishing gardens, intrigued the new owners, a family recently returned from London with their three young daughters.
The family patriarch, who was a local real estate professional, discovered the property on Zillow and was quick to secure it within a brief nine days. The Wade Design Architects team, headed by Ani and Luke Wade, were then commissioned to breathe life back into the estate. They wisely recommended Geremia Design to join the project, setting the stage for a collaboration with Forrest Glover Design, the US's luxury window treatment creator.
During the revitalization process, the builders unearthed the original blueprints, mysteriously concealed behind a wall panel. This surprise discovery added a sense of serendipity and fate to the project. The Marshank family's deep respect for female artists and designers resonated strongly with the team, and to honour this sentiment, a page from Morgan's hand-drawn blueprints was framed and placed in the house, now adorned with rich blue moire drapes from floor to ceiling, designed and fabricated by Forrest Glover Design.
Lauren Geremia, renowned for her innovative interiors for tech industry giants, brought a wealth of experience to the table. Inspired by a variety of sources, including 90s movies, she filled the house with a unique color palette of yellows, plums, deep blues, and vibrant greens.
At Forrest Glover Design, we found immense pleasure in crafting high-end interior design window treatments to harmonize with Geremia's palette. We also designed and built upholstery for the special banquette in the kitchen and the window seats, adding an extra touch of charm to the home. This opportunity to develop premium quality window coverings, especially in the primary bedroom, bathrooms, and dining room, allowed us to showcase our superior craftsmanship in window treatments. We rose to the challenge of intertwining our creations into the narrative of the house, preserving its historic architecture, and demonstrating that we are the interior designers' choice for window treatments.
Our work, in tandem with Geremia Design, was further accentuated by Pine House Edible Gardens' landscape designs, another organization run by women. They replaced the formal plantings with beds of yuzu, oranges, tomatoes, and leafy greens, creating an organic color palette that complemented our interior design.
The successful culmination of this four-year project transformed the house into a revitalized, magical dwelling, fostering enduring friendships among the designers, owners, and architects. It also served as a reminder of the pivotal role a home plays in shaping the lives of its inhabitants, especially the children growing up within its walls. Not only did Forrest Glover Design create exquisite design window treatments, but we also contributed to an enduring architectural legacy, proving that we are indeed one of the best custom window treatment producers in the US and Mexico.
