Onyx Everything — Stone That Glows : 9 Favorite Things from Expo Muebles Summer 2025

Onyx Everything — Stone That Glows : 9 Favorite Things from Expo Muebles Summer 2025

If copper was the warmth of fire at Expo Muebles, onyx was the electric glow of the earth — and it quickly became one of my absolute favorite things I saw at the show.

I kept stopping in my tracks every time I saw it: massive slabs of onyx transformed into glowing tables, consoles, and wall installations. The most striking pieces were backlit, lit from within like hidden lanterns. Imagine sitting down to dinner at a table that seems to shimmer softly beneath your plate — it’s dramatic, but in the most elegant, atmospheric way.

Not everything was large-scale theater, though. There were quieter moments too: a slim console with onyx shelves, small stone cubes reimagined as side tables, bowls and vessels carved with incredible precision. Each piece felt like it was showing a different side of the same stone’s personality.

What I loved most was the restraint. Onyx has always been a diva material — it doesn’t take much for it to tip into “too much.” But the best exhibitors this year understood that one slab, thoughtfully placed and lit, can say more than an entire room full of decoration.

👉 How I’d use it: I’d love to see a backlit onyx bar counter in a coastal house or boutique hotel — something that glows like a beacon at night. In a private home, I’d keep it sculptural but functional, like a console table that doubles as a nightlight in a hallway.

Onyx may be ancient, but in the right hands it feels futuristic. That’s why it stood out to me this year — not just as a material, but as an experience.
